I am Tshewang Dem, the founder of Tshejor’s Ayzey. My roots trace back to Khatoed, Sarpang, though my parents were originally from Khatoed (Sirangaon), Jigmecholing Gewog, Sarpang Dzongkhag. Like many Bhutanese women of my generation, I spent my early years balancing family responsibilities, work, and daily survival.
In 2000, with only Nu. 650 (USD 10), I began a small side hustle inspired by passion and a desire to support my family. I produced ezay (chilli paste) for local shops and often faced rejection and returned products. Patience kept me moving forward, and perseverance helped me overcome the discouraging moments.
In 2010, I applied for the Loden Entrepreneurship Program and received an interest-free loan that allowed me to expand and professionalize my work. In 2011, I officially launched the brand Tshejor, named after a blend of my children’s names and symbolizing “Longevity of Wealth.” What started in my kitchen slowly entered shops and homes across Bhutan.
The journey came with struggles. There were spoiled products, family objections, and the constant challenge of balancing a full-time job with a growing business. In 2013, I decided to leave my corporate job and commit fully to Tshejor’s Ayzey. That same year, I was recognized as the “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year.” Additional recognition followed:
- Best Loden Entrepreneur Award (2015)
- National Trademark Award (2018)
- International Business Excellence Award – Bhutan (Virtual)
Still, what I value most is the impact I have made on others. I have raised and supported five children besides my own and demonstrated that women can build successful businesses with determination and belief in themselves.
Today, Tshejor’s Ayzey stands as a reflection of passion, patience, and perseverance. Each jar of ezay carries authentic Bhutanese flavor and the story of a journey that began with very little but grew through dedication, courage, and hard work.
